The real secret in fast weight loss is just this.  "Eat less without feeling deprived or hungry." 

The tricky part is how?  Crash diets simply don't work because it eliminates whole food groups and we end up feeling hungry all the time.  

In the beginning you will be able to sustain the regimented diet but in the end, you will crash and burn.  Maybe that's why it's called a "Crash Diet."  


The way around this predicament is to try to eat less,  feel fuller longer and therefore lose weight quickly.

Control your meal portion


Those days, portion control means having only to eat one stick of celery, one scoop of rice, a few tablespoons of veggies and a sprinkling of olive oil.  The taste is bland and blah.  Who wants to eat like that, raise your hand?

Now with the latest dietary guidelines set by the USDA, it shows you how to enjoy a full plate and feel full while still dieting.  A miracle?  No, it's just using fractions.

Take your plate and put food groups into quarters.  One quarter lean protein such as fish, chicken or beans.  One quarter health carbs-try quinoa, brown rice, millet or a couple of red potatoes with the skins on.  

Fill the other half of your plate with vegetables.  Dairy and substitutes should be alongside the plate in the form of a glass of milk, soy, or almond or just warm water.


Tip: 

Use a smaller plate so that the portions look larger.  It may sound silly to you, but studies have shown that people will eat 10 to 20 per cent more if they use a larger plate in comparison to those who eat from a smaller plate.




Why you should eat lots of fruits and vegetables

When you were a young tot, you may be hearing a lot from your parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles to "Eat your vegetables.  They are good for you!"  But they never explain to you why it was good for you.  You may dislike the green color, grassy taste and try not to eat it at all.

Then you grow up and  find out the truth why vegetables are good for you. Well, I am going to repeat what you already know. If you know then this is to reaffirm what you know.  If you don't already know, it is something that you should know.

Vegetables are full of essential minerals which our bodies need to function properly.  It is also low in calories.  By itself it may not have much flavor and so being humans we innovate sauces for added taste.  Sauces add calories. Stop flooding your vegetables with rich sauces that are high in sugar and salt.  Instead, try roasting the vegetables.  

Roasted vegetables taste much better than boiled or steam couterparts.  Another method of cooking vegetables that adds flavor without the extra calories is to use stock or wine.

Fruits are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins.  It is also high in fibre and acts as energy boosters.  Fruits are best eaten fresh but you can also juice it, make smoothies or take it as a fruit essence.  What ever ways you want to take fruit, it is good for you and nobody has ever gained weight from eating too much fruit.

Look for quality food  


Selecting the right kind of foods to eat is how you can gain control of your diet.  Don't feel dismayed that you have to give up candy, cakes, chips, fries or ice-cream.  Find healthier alternatives that are equally tasty, filling, healthy and most importantly minus the calories.

Giving up all the 'bad' foods altogether may seem impossible but the occasional indulgence will not harm you as long as you take it once in a while.

It has been recommended that to ensure maximum muscle retention,  we should not lose more than 1 per cent of our body weight per week.
