Here are some myths about arthritis and joint pains that you may have heard of and to know the facts, too.
Arthritis is a disease that attacks our joints. Usually it will affect our hands, hips and knees. The symptoms are:
- Joint pain
- Inflammation
- Burning sensation
- Disfiguration of the fingers
1. Arthritis only affects old people
2. Cold, wet climate can cause arthritis
3. There is a cure for arthritis
4. An unhealthy diet can cause arthritis
5. You only feel minor aches and pains if you have arthritis
6. Yesterday you feel normal and suddenly today you are lethargic
7. Once you have arthritis you can't do many things
8. Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis

Myth No. 1 Arthritis only affects old people
Fact: Arthritis is not limited to aging people. It can affect anyone.
Myth No. 2 Cold, wet climate can cause arthritis
Fact: Climate alone is not the cause nor is it a cure.
Myth No. 3 - There is a cure for arthritis.
Fact: Scientist have so far been unable to find a cure for arthritis.
Myth No. 4 An unhealthy diet can cause arthritis.
Fact: Scientist have not found any evidence that specific foods types can prevent or cause arthritis to develop. However, having oily fish in your diet may help to protect your joints.
Myth No.5 - You only feel minor aches and pains if you have arthritis
Fact: Arthritis can be in various forms and is not confined to just minor aches and pains.
Myth No. 6 - Yesterday you feel normal and suddenly today you are lethargic
Fact: The duration and severity of arthritis symptoms are varied.
Myth No. 7 - Once you have arthritis, you can't do many things
Fact: People with arthritis can still lead a normal life.
Myth No. 8 Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis
Fact: Studies have been conducted to verify this myth and so far they have not found any link to the disease.
However, another study did indicate that people who have a habit of cracking their knuckles on a regular basis may find it difficult to grip things but it is not associated with any disease or pain symptoms.
Myth No. 9 Arthritis is just a joint disease
Fact: According to rheumatologists at Stanford University School of Medicine, there are 100 different versions of arthritis and related conditions. Each has it's own specific treatment.
