Did you know that once we hit the fifties, our skin will not only start to sag, it will begin to shrink? Well, as we age, our lips will become thinner as lesser collagen is produced by our bodies. When that happens, you will have to kiss your Plum Shorbet or Maroon Delight lipsticks goodbye.
Tip for thinning lips

The logic is simple. Super dark lipsticks on a skinny lip isn't going to look attractive. Switch to a shade closest to your natural lip color or if you prefer some color, go for rosy reds. Orange lipsticks also tend to be aging but pinks are not. Another way to draw the attention away from thinned or super wrinkly lips is to play up your eyes.
If you are not sure what color will best suit you, bring along a trusted friend to the department store cosmetic counter. Try out as many colors and with the help of the salesperson, you will be able to figure out quickly the shades that flatters your skin tone.
Try this at home every morning after cleansing your face.

With your index fingers, press along the lip line and massage in a circular movement. You may feel some tenderness. Continue doing until the feeling is reduced or the tissue softens.
Your lips will plump up and it will have a rosy tinge because the massage will help the blood to flow. Finish by applying lip balm to keep lips moisturized.
Tip for concealing aging eyes
The skin around the eye is the thinnest and tends to wrinkle and sag easily. This can cause an 'overhang' or 'hooded' eyelids as we age. Use eye pencils which are softer instead of liquid liners, which can be too harsh on aging eyes. Smudge the line to soften it or use an angled makeup brush dipped in dark shadow as a smudge-y eyeliner. If you have small eyes, don't line the inside of the eye as it will make the eyes appear smaller. Use mascara on the upper eyelashes. If you want to use eyeliner, begin from the inner corner draw a thin line on the upper eyelid and curve it upward at the outer corners. This will give your eye a lift.
Tip-Make your eyes pop with the right eyeshadow

The eyes are the windows to our soul. Make your eyes the focal point of your face so that it will detract attention from any find lines on other parts of the face. If you have brown or hazel eyes, golds and browns eyeshadows are gorgeous. Try Blue-gray shades if your eyes are blue and dark shades for lighter browns and dark eyes.
Remember to blend the eyeshadows. You are your own artist. Your face is a canvas and your finger or applicator is your brush. Experiment with the colors or browse through fashion magazines to get more ideas and techniques. With practice, you will be an expert in no time.

Tip-Natural looking makeup

Some women will slap on thick foundation, red lip color, strong lipliner and eyeshadows that are not blended in. They will end up with a clownish look OR Marilyn Manson. Makeup is meant to enhance the good features and downplay the weaker ones. The key is less is more.
As we grow older, we should aim to look natural. Highlighter pens, tinted moisturizers and a lighter touch of eyeshadows and lipstick is the way to go. Consider getting a hairstyle change. Bangs never go out of style and so easy to maintain.
Tip-Adopt a good skincare routine
Two women of the same age but one looks younger. What's her secret? Well, it is more likely than not she has been taking care of her skin with a regular skincare regimen which has paid dividends in her later years.
Cleansing and moisturizing keep the wrinkles at bay. Weekly exfoliation is another key in maintaining a youthful skin. Use masks that has antioxidants or Vitamin A products. Mature skin needs lots of hydration. So don't skimp on hydrating masks which does wonders. If you really want to get rid of those wrinkles, you might consider lasers, Botox or fillers. However, please do some in depth research before putting in your money as these procedures can be costly.
