Primers are created to help your makeup last longer. There are many different types of primers in the market. It depends on what your face requires. You can find makeup primers at cosmetic counters in shopping centers and malls.
What does a makeup primer do?
Generic Makeup Primer |
- Some prep the skin by filling in lines and open pores. Now you know why celebrities seemed to have flawless skin when they are on the red carpet.
- Some combat oily skin. It keeps your foundation from running or controls shine due to oil secretion.
- Some even have color correcting properties to tone down redness, shallow skin, dark circles or pigmentation.
- Primers can be used for the whole face or specific areas such as the eyes and lips.
Follow these steps to apply makeup primer
Step One
After you have cleansed and toned, apply a light moisturizer. Moisturizer keeps the surface skin from drying later in the day. Wait a few minutes for the moisturizer to absorb. For best results, wait for at least 20 minutes.
Tip:
To achieve an even smoother skin, exfoliate before your cleansing routine. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells that will otherwise give you a dull skin and the foundation will look patchy. You can find exfoliation in liquid or gel form from cosmetic counters or direct selling companies.
Step Two
Pour a small amount of the primer into your palm. Use a damp wedge sponge, dip into the primer and dab gently onto your face. Begin under your eyes and around your nose.
Tip:
Some primers are in liquid form. All you need to do is spritz it directly onto your face from the bottle. You may want to consider this option as it is convenient, easy and quick.
Step Three
Add primer to your forehead, chin, nose and cheeks. Avoid the eye area.
Step Four
Blend the primer into your skin. Make sure that you cover all areas as evenly as possible. It is alright to use a little more in places where your makeup tends to wear off quickly. Pay more attention to the T-Zone, both sides of your nostrils and enlarged pores.
Tip:
Remember to dab it on and blend. Do not rub it in as it may clog the pores and cause a breakout.
Step Five
Let the primer set before applying foundation and concealer. Usually it takes about two minutes. Check by running your finger over your face. It should feel dry.
Step Six
Get a primer that is specifically for the eyelids, as most foundation primers are not suitable. To prevent your eyeshadow from fading during the day, a good eye makeup primer can help you get much more mileage out of even the cheapest eyeshadows. Dab a little onto your eyelids before applying shadow and the color will last all day.
You can reserve using primers for special occasions like a dinner or wedding because it will really up the ante to glam you up and make you feel on top of the world!
