2) HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO BE HEALTHY

Everyone should ask themselves the above question.

Now that I am older and a little bit wiser, there are some things that you and I can do to change our mindset about the way we want to continue living. Life is like art, we have to take one step backward to see the bigger picture.

Slow down

Reflect what we have been doing for the past 15 to 20 years to get to where we are now.  Re-assessing our lives bring focus to the current health issues and we will begin finding a solution.

REALIZATION

Stress, lifestyle, diet and work pressures.  These are four of the main factors that result in a  weakened body and mind. Stress can be in the form of physical, medical or mental.  Physical stress can be overcome with rest and relaxation.  Medical stress would need  professional help to get the right diagnosis and medication.  Now, mental stress if it is kept unchecked can manifest life threatening diseases.  If it is mild, we can learn to overcome it by reading self help books, attend motivational seminars or talk it over with someone we can trust.  Sometimes, all we need is a good listener. Generally, the world will look friendlier once when we talk about our anxieties.

MAKE A CONSCIOUS DECISION

What is it that we want? Live healthily? Be happier? Grow old with our spouse? Able to watch our children become adults? Be around long enough to be proud grandparents? Travel the world?  Deciding what is truly important to us can be the push we need to start turning the wheels of change.

REGULAR MEDICAL CHECK-UPS

Do a blood test to check our LDL (cholesterol), sugar level, heart and blood pressure.  Knowledge is power. If we know what our bodies lack and what we need to maintain health, we can take precautions. Prevention is always better than cure.

Our healthcare system is on par with the rest of the world and it only costs RM1 per consultation!  The blood test and medication are free. However, if you prefer, private hospitals, pathlabs and specialists are also available.

SUPPORT SYSTEM
Our family and friends care for us.  Share our health intentions with them. They will support and encourage us on the road to healthier living. We owe it to ourselves to make the right choices and to our loved ones who need us to be around for them.

I for one, have crossed the fifty threshold.  Looking back, I have had two surgeries, a knee and shoulder injury, backache and an accident which took 2 of my colleagues lives and seriously injuring another two.  I, on the other hand, escaped with only sprained ankles and sustained a small cut on my left knee. All I can say is that my guardian angel was watching over me on that fateful night.

I am very grateful that I do not have major health issues, Though I have high blood pressure, it is manageable with medication.  However, I am working on losing the extra pounds and lowering the cholesterol level.  So, for my next topic, I will be discussing, "Where are you now on the Stage of Life?"

My Art Corner

Sweet Baby

Still featuring babies??  Guess I am in a "baby phase" since I've just picked up drawing again after leaving school 33 years ago.  I have drawn some animals too which I will post when I am "unbaby phased." But, for now this is the theme.  Hope you like this one.

Thanks for looking and taking the time to read my blog. I welcome feedback and please feel free to share your experiences in relation to today's topic.
