It is a daunting task to choose a concealer. Where do you begin?

Should you go lighter or darker?  And what to do about the undereye circles or redness on the cheeks?

How to pick the right shades of concealer for your skin tone.

Consistency and color

Lets say that you want to cover dark undereye circle.  You need to use a concealer that can provide major coverage.  Test the consistency by dabbing it on the blue veins on the inside of your wrist.

  • Go for yellow-toned concealers as they are the most suitable to cover undereye circles.
  • If you have dark or black skin, then choose orange based tones which will blend and look natural on your skin tone.
  • Rule of thumb. Choose a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation. Your foundation should match closely to your skin.
  • Avoid greasy or chalky formulas that are too pink or white.

Tips:

1) Test concealer color on the area of your neck below your ear. Remember to choose a color that is slightly lighter than your foundation color.  Too light, and you may end up looking like a raccoon.

2) Concealer need to be tried before you buy and do not buy any product that is non-returnable.

4) To compare the price and shade, try different concealers at your nearest department store cosmetic counters.
