Do you notice that your skin is getting darker as the years go by?  To find out why and what you can do about it, read on.

Aside from medical conditions or tanning, the reason our skin becomes darker is because as we grow older, cell turnover naturally becomes slower and the accumulation of dead skin cells can dull our skin tone.

In order to help our skin to rejuvenate faster and enable it to absorb the serums, lotions, or moisturizing creams more effectively, we have
to exfoliate our face and body at least once a week.

The Best Tools for Exfoliation

The best options you can consider is the basic washcloth, rather than the fluffy nylon bath sponges or even loofah, which is too abrasive on your skin anyway.
Other great tools for exfoliation: A dry soft bristle brush and exfoliating gloves or bath mitts.

  • Dry brush your entire body before getting into the shower to wash off the dead skin.
  • Use the gloves to scrub your skin in a circular motion. Nothing works better.

Treat Yourself to an At-home Body Scrub

Why spend hundreds of dollars at spas what you can achieve in your own shower for a fraction of the price using a dry brush and a body scrub?

Here is an excellent step-by-step instruction for the perfect weekly body exfoliation.
  1. Apply oil to skin(it can be coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil or even grapeseed oil).
  2. Take a dry brush to skin from the feet up, brushing in short, light strokes.
  3. Step in the shower and using a sugar or salt scrub start at the feet again and massage the skin in a circular motion on up the body. It is best to do the massage with exfoliating gloves.
  4. Rinse off the scrub using lukewarm water, then apply a salicylic acid body wash to skin, paying more attention to heels, elbows and knees. If you have a tendency towards back and butt acne, make sure to apply there as well.
  5. Pat skin dry and apply a rich moisturizer while skin is damp.

  1. if I were to do that...I'd need to spend at least an hour in the bathroom!!! I do it the al-cheapo and faster way....fluffy nylon 'balls'!!
I also need time for face, neck, etc....nah..takes too much time to beautify oneself... thanks for sharing though.

  2. Sometimes something that is worth doing will take a longer time but the result will be well worth it. My mom does it and see how young her skin looks.

  3. Before we get into how you can exfoliate your face, you should know what it really is. Exfoliation is the process of removing of dry skin cells from the surface of your skin. In my post, i share my opinion on this topic
